We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Alcatraz. The cost was reasonable and we were supplied with an audio guide at no extra cost. The island, despite it's having been a prison, is really beautiful. So many volunteers have made the entire island a pleasure to see. We spent quite a long time enjoying the landscape and the birds. The prison itself was absolutely fascinating. When you think of how tough it was for the prison employees and their families it boggles the mind. It is unfortunate that it was too costly to maintain as it seems to me that the same rules should apply to prisoners today in that they should have to earn any privileges.Joan E., United States, 04-2012

The Alcatraz tour was very informational and organized. I liked that we could proceed at our own pace on the audio tour...although it was really crowded inside the buildings. I also appreciated that we were able to spend as much time on the island as we wanted...and the wait for the next boat back wasn't too long. For the Alcatraz element the tour consisted of entrance fee & a ferry boat to & from the island which was as expected. The cruise takes you along the Wharf to out under Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge was spectacular from the water. The cruise then returns via Alcatraz, This provides views from the water of the bridge side of the island which is not so visible just from the ferry. Alcatraz was more exciting than I expected it to be. I thought my 11 year old might be bored, but he enjoyed it as much as the adults. The audio tour makes it so interesting and keeps people moving so everyone has a chance to experience and see everything. I learned so much about Alcatraz that I didn't know before! Great time, we all enjoyed it.
The bay tour was great as well. It gave us our first look at the bridge because it goes right under it. The audio tour on this is also so helpful as it points out many points of interests along the way. It also gives us an chance to see the back side of Alcatraz where the tour didn't go. we found the one hour bay cruise really great, make sure you wear your warm clothes though. What really made the cruise was the very informative guide (via headset, different languages available too), that was a bonus. Alcatraz was excellent and again the realistic sounds and information via headset is what really makes the tour.

I think it should be envisised more the importance of early booking tickets for Alcatraz as it is impossible to cross on same day. The Bay cruise had excellent audio facilities and we found it very informative and made the whole trip very interesting it was also very well paced. Alcatraz also had good audio facilities and it definetly made the whole experience a lot easier being able to pr-book our tickets and not have to worry about trip availability. The ticketing process is a little confusing, the two piers are quite far apart if you have to walk between them, and the Alcatraz tour is VERY prompt. I think the Alcatraz tour is a little over priced, as you have to tolerate bird poop everywhere you go, and the island is very stinky AND most of the walking is very steep inclines. We had a wonderful day on the Bay Cruise and trip out to Alcatraz. The Bay Cruise commentary was very knowledgeable and we learned quite a bit about San Francisco we didn't know. We visited San Francisco for one weekend, and tried to cram as much as possible into it,however that went out the window when the girls saw the shops. Our tour was a cruise round the bay and a trip to Alcatraz Island, thoroughly enjoyed both. We had an excellent and well narrated tour of Alcatraz and I intend to go back in the near future. ALCATRAZ FERRY AND ISLAND IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Alcatraz Ferry departs from Alcatraz Landing at Pier 33 along the San Francisco Embarcadero. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your departure time for boarding.

On-street parking in the Fisherman's Wharf area can be hard to find, and nearly every space has a parking meter. Parking meters take nickels, dimes and quarters. Commercial Parking: There are fifteen commercial lots with a five-block radius of the Alcatraz Landing at Pier 33, with a total of more than 3,000 parking spaces. The closest and most convenient lot is at 80 Francisco at Kearny, just one block away, across the Embarcadero from Alcatraz Landing.

Handicap Accessibility: Visitors unable to make the climb up Alcatraz's roads may take advantage of SEAT - Sustainable Easy Access Transport - an electric shuttle that meets each scheduled arrival at the Alcatraz dock and transports visitors requiring mobility assistance from the dock to the prison building. SEAT returns visitors requiring mobility assistance from the prison building back to the dock at regular intervals throughout the day. Visitors requiring mobility assistance may be accompanied by one attendant in their party if space is available. Families with small children and strollers cannot be accommodated on SEAT. The following areas are completely wheelchair accessible: Alcatraz dock area, Prison building main floor, All bookstores, Museum displays and Island theater.

The Alcatraz Ferry operates year round. Reservations are limited to 8 tickets and are available for purchase for the next 60 days. If you book 60 or more days in advance we will process your sightseeing tour reservation now and hold and book the Alcatraz Ferry as the dates are released to the public.

Limited tickets for Night Alcatraz Tours are available. Please indicate, in the special request box on the order page, if you want a night tour on a separate day with your order. If night tours are unavailable a day Alcatraz Tour, if available, will be reserved for you automatically.

Payment:
Your credit card will be charged the total amount of products and services selected at the time of booking. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover Cards. A separate charge will be made by Alcatraz Cruises and will reflect accordingly on your credit card statement.
Bay Cruise Confirmation & Travel Voucher:
This tour must be booked 24 hours in advance. You will receive a confirmation email within within 12-24 Hours with an E-Ticket Voucher for your Bay Cruise Tour. Print this voucher and present the SIGNED voucher at departure location. Only one voucher will be created per tour or activity for all travelers. Your voucher must be printed. No Exceptions.
Alcatraz Confirmation & Travel Voucher:
You will be receiving a separate confirmation email within 12-24 Hours with Alcatraz Tickets and all necessary details. Alcatraz Tickets are only available for booking for the next 90 days. Confirmation of Alcatraz Tickets, that are booked 90 days or more in advance, will be sent when tickets become available for booking.
Bay Cruise Cancellation Policy:
All sales are final. No refunds or cancellations. In the event the tour is canceled, by the tour operator, the ticket price will be refunded.
Alcatraz Cancellation Policy:
Alcatraz Tickets are Final Sale. Any changes to your Alcatraz departure time must be done 48 hours prior to your Alcatraz Cruise date. The National Park Pass is not applicable to the Alcatraz Tour. No exchanges, refunds or cancellations. You may purchase up to 8 tickets on the web. Alcatraz is a National Park and does not offer any refunds or discounts.
Supplier and Tourcorp assume no responsibility for delays caused by accidents, breakdown, weather, conditions of trails, roads, bays, oceans, rivers, airspace and any other conditions beyond control of Supplier, in addition to insufficient numbers of passengers.
